As Charming As They Come: Meet Mary ūüĎč

The energy that drive Skyline Consulting Group is electric. Each personality a patch in a much larger quilt, forming a competitive, outgoing corporate culture.

Meet Mary, Team Lead within our firm’s Management Training Program and perhaps one of the most positive, energetic forces in our organization. A Dallas native for all 28 years of her life, Mary’s knowledge of the metroplex aids her tremendously when preparing for client meetings!

An only child and extremely close with her parents, Mary talks about the commitment and work ethic she learned from them, particularly her mother. An incredibly intelligent and advanced child, she recalls her school days spent in gifted & talented classes with a concentration in mathematics!

Starting private school in 6th grade, Mary spent her teen years before graduation doing calculus, drawing, and playing tennis for fun (yes, she does calculus for fun)! After walking the stage, she was confident in her decision to attend Texas Women’s University but unsure what to choose regarding her major. It wasn’t until she ran into an old friend and was telling them about her Calc I and II classes that they said “it sounds like you should be an engineer”…and so that’s what she did! Finishing up her studies at UT Arlington, Mary graduated in 2015 with a degree in Industrial Engineering!

Post graduation Mary spent time traveling and meticulously job seeking, still unsure what she wanted to do long term with her degree. Starting with Skyline Consulting Group in July 2016 with intentions of working part time to improve her communication and organization skills (needed to pursue a career in her major), Mary was immediately attracted to the corporate culture, environment, and people she met in the office.

13 months later, we think it’s safe to say that Mary’s desire to work part time has faded and her intensity has magnified. Constantly seeking advice and leadership tips from mentors both within and outside of our industry, Mary maintains the mentality of a student hungry to learn. When asked what she thinks is the biggest contribution she brings to the office, Mary replies “contagious energy”…and we couldn’t agree more!

With new responsibilities in the office of training, interviewing, and overseeing the development of a small team, Mary lives by the quote “either you manage others or you get managed.” With no intention of being an employee for the rest of her career, Mary is making strides in her management development with hopes of being promoted into a branch management position the first quarter of 2018. Entrepreneurial driven, she sees herself overseeing her own office location for our client and helping expand the Skyline name outside of Dallas.

When Mary’s not working you can find her bingeing Game of Thrones, working out, playing Counterstrike, or spending time with her significant other of 3 years! She is one of THE best reminders that your attitude determines so much in your life and can either make or break your career success. Luckily, with charm and a personality as killer as hers, we’re certain Mary is destined for big things here at Skyline Consulting Group.

Meet The Face behind Skyline Consulting Group: Nicole Zittel

Humble & hardworking. That’s how we would describe Nicole Zittel, Human Resources Manager here at Skyline Consulting Group. An asset to our organization since the day she started, Nicole has shown us what commitment, loyalty, and compassion in the workplace look like.

Born in Breese, a small city in the South of Illinois 30 minutes from St. Louis, Nicole grew up with a perfect blend of the country and the city. Though she loved her town of 4,000 people and the occasional 4-wheeler ride on the weekend, Nicole knew she was destined to live in a big city as an adult!

Describing herself as a “girly girl”, Nicole grew up the middle child to two sisters she adores! A very social child and young adult, Nicole was a cheerleader, Student Council member, active in the Future Business Leaders of America organization, and on prom court multiple times. When Nicole was 16 and abruptly had to change high schools half way through, she took that opportunity to explore new friends and experiences rather than wallow in self-pity. Even as a kid, she knew how to roll with the punches, adapt, and make the best of every situation.

A 2009 HS graduate, Nicole immediately enrolled at Southern Illinois University. After exploring half a dozen majors (haha), she settled on mass communications – a major perfect for her social and communicative self. As if one Bachelor’s degree wasn’t awesome enough, Nicole found herself enrolling at McKendree University in Lebanon, IL and graduated in 2016 with a degree in Human Resources (she’s amazing, we know)!

Beginning with our client at a St. Louis based office, Nicole was a natural in the Human Resources Department, aiding in advertisement, recruitment, onboarding, and administration. Immediately impressing the CEO of Skyline Consulting Group, Shannon Potashnik, with her work ethic and ability to drive results from the front office, Nicole was offered an opportunity to move to Dallas and help Skyline Consulting Group grow as a start-up into a thriving small business.

Since starting with the company, Nicole has helped the office grow threefold, has won numerous awards held by our client, and has plans to help Skyline Consulting Group grow into 2 additional markets over the course of the next year. With long-term hopes of moving into a Brand Management role for the Skyline organization, Nicole works daily to become the best version of her professional self.

When she’s not at the office leading from the front, Nicole is hanging out with coworkers, enjoying the Dallas nightlife, watching Netflix, or reading a new fiction book (her night shelf currently boasts A Clock Burns Orange and Looking For Alaska). A fur mom to Berklee, half beagle half pit puppy, Nicole’s caring personality flows from home to the office.

From our entire team at Skyline Consulting Group, we’d like to extend the most sincere “thank you” to Nicole. It is an honor to call her a colleague, but even more so a friend. To follow Nicole’s career, keep up with us on Instagram, and to share your congratulations with her on being the featured team member of the month, comment below with your well wishes!

Skyline Consulting Group Presents Our Oklahoman Texan: David’s Story

Skyline Consulting Group is proud to boast a diverse workforce.

The diversity, whether it be in our cultures, languages, educations, skillsets or home states/countries, strengthens us and allows us to approach client and customer sales consultations with greater creativity and adaptability. As Stephen Covey says, “strength lies in differences, not in similarities.”

One of the most interesting people in our organization, and one who continuously sets the bar for performance, integrity, and advancement, is an ambitious young man by the name of David Gruver. Originally born on Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma, David and family soon moved to the Netherlands — a¬†place he remembers fondly, and the origin of him learning to speak Dutch (he also speaks Spanish, too!). Starting soccer in the Netherlands at age 3, David fell in love with the game and would later pursue it seriously in college.

While still in elementary school, though, David’s family was transferred¬†back to Oklahoma, and they quickly made Dell City their home. Diving right back into soccer, David’s childhood was spent outdoors and on the field, learning the value of having discipline and strong work ethic. After all, he knew he wasn’t going to play on the Sooners squad if he¬†wasn’t willing to put in the work! Spending years 6-18 in Dell City, David was an honors student, varsity soccer star, and cross country runner. When deciding where to attend college, he chose the University¬†of Oklahoma for their veterinary¬†program and his love for the crimson & cream!

Making the cut for the Men’s Soccer Team, David spent his freshman year juggling being an athlete and a full-time student before finally deciding to commit himself to his studies. Over time, David began to realize his true passion lied in business and entrepreneurship, as he found himself daydreaming more about how he could own multiple vet clinics, rather than actually doctor animals (haha). Random fact about David: he has 2 Great Pyrenees¬†dogs that live with his family in Oklahoma and his favorite animal is a Panda!

Prior to his graduation in May 2016 with a Bachelor’s in Marketing &¬†Entrepreneurship, David began looking for full-time employment in Oklahoma. Eager for hands-on experience and the opportunity to get his foot in the door, David met CEO, Shannon Potashnik, as she was overseeing an office for our client in Oklahoma City. The interview went extremely well, David was offered a position as a Sales Account Manager, and about a month in truly bought into the company’s mission and growth opportunity. When he heard Shannon and company were relocating to Dallas, TX, though, his heart stopped. How could he leave his family and 12 years history in Oklahoma for a career he started a month ago?

After much deliberation, David realized that the goal-oriented people he worked with and work atmosphere he had were reason enough for him to give it a try. Now, almost a year after his move and with even more promotions and travels and skills under his belt, David knows he made the best decision for himself.

With aspirations to move into a Marketing Management position at Skyline Consulting Group by the end of 2018, David still remembers from soccer that you must be willing to put more time on the field to have the success you want. When asked who his biggest role models are, David speaks extensively about his father and how he always pushed him to excel and be the best version of himself. In just 5 years, David plans to buy his Dad a house in Colorado as a token of his appreciation for the continuous support and belief. (He has his eyes set on a car for his mom, too¬†ūüėČ)

When you can’t find him at work, you can find David hanging out with colleagues, watching White Collar on Netflix, or rooting for the Sooners every Saturday during football season!

We hope in reading this, David, that you know your talent is appreciated, your Oklahoman friendliness is treasured, and your¬†personality, perfect for our team. We thank you for all you have done for Skyline Consulting Group in the past, and all you will continue to do in the future. Congratulations on being featured as April’s Rising Star!
